Jeffrey Epstein Found Injured In NYC Jail After Alleged Suicide Attempt
Jeffrey Epstein, the prominent financier charged with sex trafficking and sexual abuse of underage girls, was found injured in his New York City jail cell on Wednesday following an alleged suicide attempt.
According to several reports, Epstein — who is still awaiting trial — was discovered at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in a fetal position and semi-conscious with marks on his neck. Investigators are now attempting to determine what exactly occurred. One theory is that the financier tried to hang himself, while another posits that Epstein may have been assaulted by another inmate who is reportedly now being questioned.
Last week, Epstein was denied bail after a search from authorities of his Manhattan mansion revealed he had a fake passport and piles of cash and jewelry stored in a safe. Epstein had requested to await trial at his luxury home, but a U.S. district judge said Epstein was simply seeking “special treatment” and that he was now considered at risk of fleeing the country, and the financier has also now been placed on suicide watch. Epstein has been forced to register as a sex offender after officials found a trove of nude and other lewd photos of underage girls at his home. The financier lured, trafficked and abused girls at both his New York and Florida homes in the early 2000s.
