Amy Klobuchar Announces Goals For First 100 Days In Office

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minnesota), a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, on Tuesday announced her list of goals for her first 100 days in office should she be elected.

Most of Klobuchar’s priorities revolve around undoing what President Donald Trump has done thus far by using executive authority. The Minnesota Democrat said she would make the United States rejoin the Paris Climate Agreement and the Iran nuclear deal, help ensure former President Barack Obamas Affordable Care Act remains the standard for healthcare, end immigrant family separations at the southern border and ending a ban on transgender Americans serving in the military.

The majority of Klobuchar’s goals for her first 100 days could be accomplished via executive order, while only a few would require legislation and congressional approval. Her announcement came as Trump launched his 2020 re-election campaign Tuesday with a rally in Orlando, Florida.

“After four years of Donald Trump, the new president can’t wait for a bunch of congressional hearings to act,” Klobuchar said in a statement. The objective, she said, is “to improve our health care, combat climate change, pursue economic justice and shared prosperity, and build a stronger democracy and safer world.”

SLIDESHOW: TOP DEMOCRATS RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT IN 2020

Klobuchar is one of the 20 Democratic 2020 presidential candidates who qualified to participate in the first-round debates at the end of the month. She will face nine other contenders, including Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts) and Cory Booker (D-New Jersey), in the first night of debates in Miami on June 26.

Klobuchar has struggled to garner more than low single-digit backing in polls tracking support for 2020 Democratic candidates, and remains behind candidates like Warren, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont), Joe Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-California).
