During the early 2000s, the Trump Organization researched constructing a multimillion dollar resort in Ukraine.

In 2006, President Donald Trump‘s son and daughter – Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump – traveled to Ukraine to meet with government officials. In 2008, Trump Jr. returned to meet with developers about the hotel and golf resort.

The Trumps were interested in establishing luxury resorts across the former Soviet republics. Ukraine, despite widespread corruption, appeared to be a favorable location.

Trump officials met with developers Dmitry Buriak and convicted felon Felix Sater. Both of whom have conducted business in Russia.

The proposed development eventually failed. But one decade later, Trump has accused 2020 presidential election opponent Joe Biden of attempting to capitalize on “very corrupt” Ukraine.

Most lawmakers were unaware of Trump’s previous Ukraine connections.

The conservative group Judicial Watch and foreign media reports obtained the information.

Ukraine is among many countries Trump tried to develop properties in. He has used his political power and money to influence foreign policy in Turkey, India and the Philippines. He famously attempted develop a Trump Tower in Moscow, but that effort failed.
