Tim Ryan (dropped out)
Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) is running for president, adding another Democrat to the already crowded, diverse field of presidential candidates.
In an appearance on ABC’s The View on April 4, the 45-year-old Ohio congressman spoke about how plant closures in Ohio shaped his life and said it was time for the federal government to do something.
“I am going to run for President of the United States,” he said.
The televised announcement came just minutes after Ryan’s campaign website went live and touted his working-class roots.
“As a congressman from Youngstown, Ohio for almost 20 years, I’ve watched the American Dream slip through the fingers of many Americans,” Ryan wrote in a statement on his 2020 website. “When our local GM factory was shut down last Thanksgiving, I got a call from my daughter, who was consoling her friend, whose father was an auto worker and was just laid off. “My daughter said to me, with tears in her voice, ‘You have to do something.’”
“That’s why I am running for president,” he continued. “It’s time to do something.”
