Trump calls Sen. Kristen Gillibrand a "lightweight" (Dec. 12, 2017)
New York Democratic Senator Kristen Gillibrand called on Dec. 11 for Trump to resign following a resurgence of women (19 in total) who have accused him of sexual assault.
Unsurprisingly, however, the President refused to step down, and lashed out at Gillibrand one day later.
Like he has for so many other people, Trump claimed Gillibrand would have begged him for campaign money.
“You cannot silence me or the millions of women who have gotten off the sidelines to speak out about the unfitness and shame you have brought to the Oval Office,” Gillibrand wrote in a tweet to respond to this attack.
Several Democratic lawmakers soon rushed to Gillibrand’s defense, among them Connecticut’s Richard Blumenthal and Oregon’s Ron Wyden.
“I stand with Sen. Gillibrand, a dedicated public servant and friend,” Blumenthal tweeted. “America must reject Trump’s sexist slurs.”
“These women are right. If @realDonaldTrump won’t resign, Congress must investigate allegations by many, many women that he sexually assaulted and harassed them,” wrote Wyden, while sharing a link to a report of a press conference held by Trump’s accusers. “No one is above the law.”
