Caputo was a communications staffer on Trump’s 2016 campaign. A Russian national named Henry Greenberg contacted Caputo’s business partner, offering to trade money for damaging information on Hillary Clinton. Caputo reportedly then handed this dirt to Stone, who in turn met with Greenberg.

In May 2018, Caputo said in several cable news interviews that he and his family were receiving death threats over his alleged involvement in the Russia probe.
