Wisconsin GOP Draft Election Report Says 2020 Election Should Be ‘Decertified’

A working draft of a report for a Republican-run investigation into 2020 election results in Wisconsin, backs the theory that election results can be overturned after the election, furthering former President Donald Trump‘s call to decertify the election that he deems as “stolen” and “rigged.”

Former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman has been leading the investigation for months. His interim report was released on Tuesday, and claimed that the results from the election should be “decertified.”

“Our position is that once the electoral votes have been received by the Congress, that closes the door. The election is then done,” responded the unidentified nonpartisan attorney who was representing the Legislature.

Gableman stated that he went into the investigation with an open mind, even though he had publically said he thought the election was stolen dating as far back as late November 2020.

His report focused on advocating for making it more difficult to certify elections, claiming that Wisconsin’s voting roles were outdated and stating that private grants influenced the outcome of the election. He also asserted that the state’s bipartisan election board should be dismantled and that mail-in voting should be limited.

Wisconsin’s Democratic Gov. Tony Evers condemned Gableman and said that the investigation has “long surpassed being a mere embarrassment for our state” that he said “must be brought to an end.”

“This effort has spread disinformation about our election processes, it has attacked the integrity of our clerks, election administrators, and poll workers, and it has emboldened individuals to harass and demean dedicated public servants,” Evers added in a statement. “Enough is enough. Republicans in the Legislature have always had the ability to end this effort, and I call on them to do so today.”
