Hawaii Democrats Condemn Former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard For Speaking At CPAC

Tulsi Gabbard ran for president in 2020 as a Democrat, but her recent Conservative Political Action Conference speaking gig last weekend could signal a change of parties.

“They’re hypocrites,” Gabbard said of Democratic Party leaders in the speech. “They proclaim that we must go to war to spread democracy and freedom while they actively work to undermine our democratic republic and our freedoms right here at home.”

The former Hawaii congresswoman, who represented Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District from 2013 to 2021, went so far as to say she felt “right at home” while giving the speech.

The Oahu County Democratic Committee moved to vote to condemn Gabbard for speaking at an event that raised money for the opposing party. The 15-2 majority voted in favor and, the resolution also proposed the formation of an ad hoc panel to investigate Gabbert’s actions for violations of the Democratic party’s bylaws and platform.

This week, Gabbard took additional stances that separated her from most of her party.

“This war and suffering could have easily been avoided if Biden Admin/NATO had simply acknowledged Russia’s legitimate security concerns regarding Ukraine’s becoming a member of NATO, which would mean US/NATO forces right on Russia’s border,” she wrote in a pro-Russia tweet.

Gabbard has previously been called out for her pro-Kremlin views.

“I’m not making any predictions, but I think they’ve got their eye on somebody who is currently in the Democratic primary and are grooming her to be the third-party candidate. She’s the favorite of the Russians,” said 2016 presidential candidate and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton back in 2019.

Gabbard filed a lawsuit against Clinton for defamation in response, but dropped it later in 2020 to focus on more pressing issues like “defeating Donald Trump.”
