The White House has announced that Donald Trump is preparing to grant the Presidential Medal of Freedom to seven “distinguished individuals,” one of whom is the wife of one of the biggest donors to the GOP.
Sheldon Adelson is a billionaire known for his Las Vegas casino empire as well as being generous with Republicans. Recently, he made donations totaling $25 million to Republican Super PACs and he has reportedly spent over $113 million on the conservative party in all. Miriam Adelson is his wife, and she’s among the seven people who will soon be awarded with the nation’s highest honor.
According to its White House description, the Presidential Medal of Honor is given to those responsible for “especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.” The White House described Miriam as “a committed doctor, philanthropist, and humanitarian” and “a committed member of the American Jewish community.”
