In a series of tweets, the White House account targeted Sens. Kamala Harris, (D-Calif.), and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), accusing them of supporting criminals activity because of their disapproval of current U.S immigration policy.
Sen. Warren had previously called for abolishing the U.S Customs and Immigration Enforcement agency (ICE) during a Boston rally on Saturday. “The president’s deeply immoral actions have made it obvious we need to rebuild our immigration system from top to bottom starting by replacing ICE with something that reflects our morality and that works,” said Warren. The official White House account has since directly tweeted at the senator.
The White House also tweeted at Sen. Harris, asking why she is “supporting the animals of MS-13,” referencing the transnational gang, rooted in El Salvador. Harris has only called for reforming ICE, rather than abolishing the organization.

The senator later fired back at the tweet, distinguishing her history of persecuting “gangs and transnational criminal organizations” as former Attorney General of California from ICE’s history of separating migrant families.
“As a career prosecutor, I actually went after gangs and transnational criminal organizations. That’s being a leader on public safety. What is not, is ripping babies from their mothers,” tweeted Harris.
The personalized attacks marks an interesting turn for the White House’s official account, which has traditionally refrained from posting overtly partisan content or criticizing public figures.
SLIDESHOW: DONALD TRUMP’S 30 CRAZIEST TWEETS
“The White House is using government taxpayer resources to target a senator with complete and utter falsehoods,” tweeted Lily Adams, Sen. Harris’ communications director.
Some have since speculated that the attacks may be a new front in President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign. Both sens. Warren and Kamala are currently rumored to be potential early front-runners for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination.
