White House Corrects Statement On Iran Nuclear Activity With Huge “Clerical Error”

The White House issued a statement on Iran’s nuclear activity with a huge typo this week.

In a statement, the White House said, “Iran has a robust, clandestine nuclear weapons program that it has tried and failed to hide from the world and from its own people,” making it seem as though the U.S. would soon be need to break the Iran nuclear deal.

Later, however, the White House soon altered its statement to reflect Iran’s past actions – changing “has” to “had.”

“Iran had a robust, clandestine nuclear weapons program that it has tried and failed to hide from the world and from its own people,” the corrected statement read.

An official told NBC that the mistake was due to a clerical error. The White House explained the situation without issuing a formal correction.

The new National Security Advisor John Bolton is known to be an extreme hawk on Iran issues.

“The original White House statement included a clerical error, which we quickly detected and fixed,” a National Security Council spokesman told CNN. “To be clear, the United States has long known that Iran had a robust, clandestine nuclear weapons program.”
