After months of refusing to wear a mask in public, President Donald Trump endorsed them Wednesday in an interview with the Fox Business Network and said that wearing one makes him look like “The Lone Ranger.”
During the interview, Fox Business’ Blake Burman pressed the president about the model that Goldman Sachs issued Tuesday, which that claimed that universal mask institution would reap public health and economic benefits, including a net positive effect on gross domestic product (GDP) and saving lives.
Burman asked Trump, “Sir, why not go forward and say there should be mandatory masks all across this country?”
Trump replied, “Well, I do not know if you need mandatory because you have many places in the country where people stay very long distance … You talk about social distancing.”

He continued, “I’m all for masks. I think masks are good.”
The Trump comments come after presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden‘s announcement last week that he would pursue a federal mask mandate, if he wins the general election.
Trump also told Fox Business, “I had a mask on. I sort of liked the way I looked. Okay. I thought it was okay. It was a dark black mask, and I thought it looked okay.”
“It looked like the Lone Ranger … I have no problem with that,” he said, a reference to the fictional law-and-order character from Old West television series who sported a mask.
“I have no problem with that, and if people feel good about it, they should do it… If I were in a tight situation with people, I would absolutely,” the president added.
Trump’s remarks come after Republicans on Capitol Hill‘s Tuesday suggestion that the president should wear a mask in public to serve as an example for the American people.
They also follow Dr.Anthony Fauci‘s Wednesday advisory that the daily surge of new cases in the U.S., which was currently at around 40,000, could reach 100,000 if people failed to wear masks and social distance. The U.S. is experiencing a flood of new cases in the southern and western regions of the country.
