Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito Reportedly Considering Retiring So Trump Could Replace Him With Conservative

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito is reportedly considering retirement. Hugh Hewitt, the conservative radio host, spoke toWashington Post Wednesday, speculated about the potential retirement of the conservative justice appointed by former president George W. Bush.

Hewitt said that the recent rumors of the retirement of Clarence Thomas, a conservative justice appointed by former President George H.W. Bush, is unlikely at this point.

“The stronger rumor is that Justice Alito is going to quit,” Hewitt said. “Justice Thomas will never quit.”

Alito, 70, was appointed in 2005 and viewed as one of the most conservative justice in the Supreme Court.

President Donald Trump is preparing for his third Supreme Court nomination for the potential vacancy, preferably before November. Trump’s weak political position is speculated to have sped up Alito’s timeframe as he would want to be replaced by another conservative. If Trump loses the election, Joe Biden would likely name a liberal to the seat.

Trump recently blasted the Supreme Court for its decisions and called out for new nominations.

“These horrible & politically charged decisions coming out of the Supreme Court are shotgun blasts into the face of people that are proud to call themselves Republicans or Conservatives,” Trump tweeted. “We need more Justices or we will lose our 2nd. Amendment & everything else. Vote Trump 2020!”
