WATCH: GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski Says She’s ‘Struggling’ On Whether To Vote For Trump, President Vows To Defeat Her

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) said she agreed with former Secretary of Defense James Mattis who slammed President Donald Trump‘s handling George Floyd protests.

“Donald Trump is the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people—does not even pretend to try,” Mattis wrote in The Atlantic. “Instead, he tries to divide us.”

“When I saw General Mattis’ comments yesterday I felt like perhaps we are getting to a point where we can be more honest with the concerns that we might hold internally and have the courage of our own convictions to speak up,” Murkowski said.

Murkowski noted that she did not support Trump during the 2016 election and is struggling over whether she can support him in 2020.

“He is our duly elected President. I will continue to work with him. I will continue to work with this administration but I think right now as we are all struggling to find ways to express the words that need to be expressed appropriately, questions about who I’m going to vote for not going to vote for I think are distracting at the moment,” she said.

Other Republicans senators, however, did not rush to join Murkowski’s condemnation of the president.

Trump took to Twitter attack her, promising to work to defeat her in her next election.
