Warren Refuses Handshake From Sanders At Democratic Debate [Photos]

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts) appeared to refuse a handshake from Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-Vermont) after Tuesday night’s Democratic debate.

The most interesting part of the night didn’t happen during the debate, but afterwards, while the candidates exchanged handshakes. Warren approached Sanders, and Sanders reached out his hand for her to shake. Instead, Warren and Sanders appeared to get into a heated exchange.

Tom Steyer, another Democratic candidate, approached the two but soon turned away with Sanders. Steyer said of the incident afterwards, “Whatever they were going on between each other, I was trying to get out of the way as fast as possible.”

This comes after a CNN report, which Warren has stood by, claimed Sanders told Warren in a private meeting in 2018 that he didn’t believe a woman could win the election. Sanders has fervently denied he ever made such a statement.

News of the 2018 meeting surfaced after Politico reported Sanders was sending his campaign volunteers to attack Warren, something he’s also denied.

Neither campaign has addressed the incident or what was said.
