Vice President Kamala Harris has been tapped by President Joe Biden to be the White House point person dealing with immigration reform and the surge of migrants at America’s southern border. Biden announced his intentions Wednesday in a press conference.

“I can think of nobody who is better qualified to do this,” Biden said.

Harris will be responsible for addressing the increased amount of “irregular migrants” by addressing “the root causes” which compels migrants to leave their home countries. Harris said that there “is no question this is a challenging situation,” and that the next steps will include speaking with Central American leaders to address those root causes.

New Biden administration proposals are aimed at clearing government corruption and violence in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.
