Trump’s Fake Elector Spent Hours In Breached Office, Video Shows

A former Republican official spent hours inside a restricted area of an election office in a Georgia county on January 7, 2021, the day it was breached, newly released surveillance video shows.

The footage shows Cathy Lathan, a former GOP chairwoman of Coffee County, in the same room as operatives working with an attorney for former President Donald Trump. The operatives appear to access voting data.

Lathan is under criminal investigation for posing as a fake elector in 2020. Earlier in September, it was reported that she had escorted operatives working with former Trump lawyer Sidney Powell through the front door of the elections office on January 7. She claimed she was not “personally involved” in the breaching.

The new footage, obtained by CNN and The Washington Post as part of a civil lawsuit related to the security of voting systems, undercut that claim.

Two men working with SullivanStrickler, a firm hired by Powell, also appear in the surveillance video. Scott Hall and Paul Maggio have acknowledged they gained access to Coffee Country’s voting systems.

A lawyer representing Lathan disputes the claim she was involved with the plot that resulted in the breaching.

“There is no evidence of which we are aware that Mrs. Latham spoke to Ms. Powell or to anyone at SullivanStrickler on or before January 6, 2021,” the lawyer said in a statement to CNN. “And indeed there is no evidence of which we are aware that Mrs. Latham spoke to Ms. Powell or to anyone at SullivanStrickler on or before January 6, 2021.”
