Trump’s Advice To George Washington On Mount Vernon: “If He Was Smart, He Would’ve Put His Name On It”

After receiving a 45-minute guided tour by Doug Bradburn last April, CEO of George Washington‘s home Mount Vernon, President Donald Trump noted that the First President’s death bed was “a good bed to die in.”

Bradburn, formerly a history professor with a Ph.D., guided Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron around the simple one-and-a-half-story home-turned-11,000-square-foot mansion.

During the president’s visit, Sarah Miller Coulson, spokesperson for Mount Vernon promised to offer the “famous Washington hospitality” to Trump and other “visiting dignitaries from around the world.”

Claiming the rooms were too small, the staircases too narrow and the floorboards to be too uneven, Trump criticized the architectural interior of the mansion. Trump said he believed Washington “could have built the place better, and for less money.”

Yet, what confused Trump the most was why Washington did not name the home after himself. “If he was smart, he would’ve put his name on it. You’ve got to put your name on stuff or no one remembers you,” Trump said.

Bradburn then mentioned that Washington did name the capital of the United States after himself, to which Trump responded, “Good point.”

Twitter had a field day with this detail.
