Trump Waited For Jared Kushner To “Research” Before Declaring Coronavirus State of Emergency

President Donald Trump reportedly waited for his son-in-law Jared Kushner to ‘research’ whether or not he should declare a state of emergency in response to the coronavirus.

Trump, according to three people familiar with the decision, was hesitant to declare an emergency. He was reportedly leaning towards a more lenient approach in attempts to downplay the severity of the situation.

Nonetheless, Trump counted on Kusher to give him guidance. Politico reported that “the task force will not give Trump its final verdict,” until Kushner “finishes his research and comes to a conclusion himself.”

By declaring a state of emergency, and in agreement with the Stafford Act, Trump would be able to give federal agencies further authority to assist those in need of transportation and shelter because of the coronavirus. The Stafford Act also allows the government to use $34 billion from a disaster-relief fund.

Last  Wednesday, Trump declared a state of emergency and halted all travel from Europe for 30 days.  The World Health Organization classified the virus as a pandemic, and cases continue to grow across the country.
