Trump To Host 2020 G7 Summit At His Own Doral Resort In Florida

President Donald Trump will host the 2020 Group of 7 Summit at Trump National Doral, his luxury resort near Miami, it was reported Thursday.

“‘It’s almost like they built this facility to host this type of event,’” said acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney in a press briefing, quoting an unnamed official. Mulvaney — who said next year’s G7 meeting is scheduled for June 10 through 12 — swiftly added that Trump “hasn’t profited” from any business made at Doral Golf Club since he took office.

Unlike what Mulvaney claims, many government ethics organizations are sure to criticize the move as a conflict of interest, one of many Trump has been accused of since becoming president. Trump  hasn’t fully divested from his businesses. This would only add one more reason for House Democrats leading an impeachment inquiry to push for Trump to be removed from office. The Trump Organization — which is already being probed for hush-money payments to the president’s former mistresses and other campaign finance violations — could easily receive windfall profits from hosting the G7 Summit, which features leaders from the seven leading economies in the world: the U.S., Canada, France, The U.K., Italy, Germany and Japan.

SLIDESHOW: TOP DEMOCRATS RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT IN 2020

Trump had first raised the idea of hosting the 2020 G7 at Doral during this year’s meeting in Biarritz, France in August. The president cited the ample space at Doral as a reason for holding the summit at the resort.

“It’s got tremendous acreage, many hundreds of acres, so we can handle whatever happens,” Trump said at the time. “People are really liking it and plus it has buildings that have 50 to 70 units. And so each delegation can have its own building.”

The Washington Post reported in May reported that profits at Doral have decreased significantly since Trump became president, among other issues.
