President Donald Trump threatened Washington Gov. Jay Inslee (D) and Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan (D) on Wednesday, tweeting: “Take back your city NOW. If you don’t do it, I will.”
Seattle protesters, spurred by the death of George Floyd, have set up tents and blocked streets in an occupation known as the “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone,” or “CHAZ.”
Trump tweeted Thursday that the two leader “are being taunted and played at a level that our great Country has never seen before.”
“Take back your city NOW,” he wrote. “If you don’t do it, I will. This is not a game. These ugly Anarchists must be stopped IMMEDIATELY. MOVE FAST!”

According to news reports and firsthand accounts, CHAZ is about a six-block radius cordoned off in which there is art, movie screenings and a “No Cop Co-Op” with free food, vegan pizza and drinks.
One protester told the New York Times that CHAZ residents “are trying to prove through action and practice that we don’t need [the police] and we can fulfill the community’s needs without them.”
Inslee responded to Trump’s tweet, calling him a “man who is totally incapable of governing.”
He later wrote that CHAZ has been “largely peaceful” and threats of military violence against Washingtonians should not be coming from the White House.
Seattle Mayor Durkan weighed in on Twitter as well, telling Trump to “go back to your bunker,” referring to reports that Trump cowered in an underground bunker when the protests in Washington D.C. first began.
