President Donald Trump on Saturday stood by his tirade against four Democratic minority congresswomen by sharing a video of him instigating the now-infamous “send her back” chants at a recent rally in North Carolina that far-right British political commentator Katie Hopkins tweeted.
“New Campaign slogan for #2020? ‘Don’t love it? Leave it!’ Hopkins commented on the clip. “Send her back is the new lock her up. Well done to #TeamTrump.”
Trump responded by reiterating he was not happy with the racially offensive chants and that he believes his supporters are merely “patriotic” despite their calls to “send back” Somali-born Muslim Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota), who came to the United States as a refugee when she was a young girl. Omar has famously made comments critical of Israel and their lobbying groups’ influence on American politics, remarks that have been condemned by both major parties as anti-Semitic.

Hopkins is a renown anti-Muslim British pundit who advocated for a “final solution” for Muslims in the United Kingdom after the May 2017 terrorist attack in Manchester. She also reportedly blamed Jews for the massacre at a synagogue in Pittsburgh late last year because she said they backed less strict immigration laws.

According to a Guardian article published shortly after the Manchester bombings, Hopkins also once “compared migrants to cockroaches and suggested Europe should use gunboats to stop them crossing the Mediterranean.”
The BBC also recently reported that Hopkins first gained public attention after she appeared as a contestant on the BBC TV series The Apprentice in 2007.
