Trump Says COVID-19 Vaccinations For Young People Are ‘Unnecessary’

Former President Donald Trump has spoken out against COVID-19 vaccination of school-aged children, baselessly claiming the coronavirus has “not affected or affected badly” the younger population in the United States.

Trump claimed in an interview with Sean Hannity that vaccinating children is “unnecessary.” He continued that “the vaccine on very young people is something that you gotta really stop.”

With over 300 million doses given and nearly half of the American adult population vaccinated, the focus is now being redirected toward school-aged children. Younger people represent the highest number of COVID cases in hospitals at the moment.

After the FDA approved Pfizer as the first vaccine used on children between the ages of 12 and 15, many other manufacturers have been working to produce another safe and effective vaccine for younger children. Lawmakers are refocusing their efforts to ensure shots are made available to younger populations.

The CDC has been urgently advising anyone who is 12 years of age or older to go get vaccinated. There is a concerning increase in COVID-related cases that involve children in hospitals around the country. Rare and severe diseases and conditions related to COVID-19 have been linked to this age group, resulting in symptoms such as rashes, abdomen issues and conjunctivitis.
