President Donald Trump caused a stir on Memorial Day with a tweet focusing on himself and his perceived accomplishments more than honoring fallen soldiers.

Other politicians such as former presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush contrasted Trump’s tweet with more respectful ones of their own. A myriad of Americans responded negatively to the president’s self-congratulatory tweet, and a retired two-star Army general, Major Paul Eaton, had words for Trump as well, telling him “there is nothing ‘happy’ about Memorial Day.”

Eaton served in the military for 33 years and retired in 2006. He was a commander during the Iraq War.
