Trump Questions Why Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe Isn’t Being Investigated

Former Deputy Director of the FBI Andrew McCabe, who was fired in March by Attorney General Jeff Sessions hours before he was set to retire, was target of another outburst by the president. This time, President Donald Trump is questioning why the former deputy director was not also “being investigated” for donations his wife had accepted in 2015 from a Clinton ally.

McCabe’s wife, Jill McCabe, ran as a Democrat in 2105 for the state senate in Virginia and lost to Republican Richard H. “Dick” Black, garnering 47.55% off the vote compared to Black’s 52.3%. She accepted money from the state’s former Gov. Terry McAuliffe‘s super PAC, which is legal. McAuliffe was a close ally of Hillary Clinton’s who, at the time, was still battling Trump for the presidency.

“Why isn’t disgraced FBI official Andrew McCabe being investigated for the $700,000 Crooked Hillary Democrats in Virginia, led by Clinton best friend Terry M (under FBI investigation that they killed) gave to McCabe’s wife in her run for office? Then dropped case on Clinton!” Trump posted to Twitter.

On July 5, 2016 former Director of the FBI James Comey, who was also fired by Trump, officially recommended that no charges be filed against the former secretary of state for her use of a private email server for government business. On October 28, 2016, the case into Clinton’s alleged mishandling of classified information was reopened after Comey announced that his agents had found new information.

Andrew McCabe was fired after a report by Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz concluded that he had made a series of unauthorized disclosures to the media and later misled federal investigators on the matter. McCabe has denied those charges.

Horowitz has since referred the case to federal prosecutors. It is unknown whether or not they are actively pursuing any charges against the former deputy director.
