Trump Organization Fires Mar-a-Lago Employees Amid COVID-19 Shutdown

The COVID-19 outbreak in the U.S. has now heavily impacted the Trump Organization, forcing it to permanently fire a substantial number of its employees at the Mar-a-Lago Golf Club in Palm Beach, Florida.

When stay-at-home orders and social distancing measures were implemented, the Trump Organization temporarily furloughed more than 2,100 staff members, including 250 if its 560 golfing employees in Florida.

President Donald Trump has supported a quick reopening of the country and even flew to Mar-a-Lago to play golf after being absent for a long time.

COVID-19 is rapidly increasing in the U.S., unlike in Europe and East Asia, and the death toll recently surpassed 100,000.

David Feder, managing director of the Trump Miami Resort Management, wrote a letter in which he explained the drastic measures taken to weather the public health crisis.

“It now appears that the adverse effects of the Covid-19 outbreak upon our business will be longer and more substantial than previously was foreseeable,” he wrote. “As a result, we have made the difficult decision that some of the temporary indefinite furloughs that began on or about March 19, 2020 will become permanent employment separations effective May 15, 2020.”
