Trump Tweet On Minneapolis Riots Flagged By Twitter As Promoting Violence

The death of unarmed African American man, George Floyd, at the hands of police has sparked worldwide outrage, causing violent protests both in Minnesota and across the country.

After the four police officers involved in his death were fired, Floyd’s family asked that they be charged with murder. In the leaked video, the Minnesota man is shown gasping while a police officer stifles his throat with his knee.

President Donald Trump tweeted about the upheaval in Minneapolis, Minnesota, after looters started damaging the city’s buildings in protest. “When the looting starts, the shooting starts,” he said on his Twitter account, before the social media platform flagged his post for violating its rules by promoting violence.

Trump also criticized the violent nature of the protests in another tweet, where he warned about the National Guard’s arrival in St. Paul and Minneapolis, the epicenters of the protest.

Last Thursday, protesters also broke into Ohio Statehouse, thus damaging its windows, light fixtures, and doors, the Ohio Department of Public Security declared in a statement.

While most protestors from Columbus had simply gathered in solidarity, a few used ter spray to fight against police and threw eggs on local monuments and buildings.

Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther incited citizens to remain calm and only protest peacefully in a series of tweets.

First Lady Melania Trump also used Twitter to call for unity, non-violent protests, then offering her condolences to Floyd’s family.
