President Donald Trump lashed out hard on Twitter at Rep. Adam Schiff (D-California), Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, for what he thinks is a distortion of the transcript of his phone call with the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump called Schiff “sick” and a “liar” and accused him of “defrauding the public.” Trump demanded that Schiff resign from Congress for “distorting” the conversation during a House meeting with the Director of National Intelligence.
Schiff, for his part, explained that he was summarizing the phone call and in doing so made a “parody” of Trump’s telephone conversation. Schiff described Trump as asking Zelensky seven times to investigate and make up dirt on former Vice-President Joe Biden and his family. Schiff did not claim it to be a verbatim reading of the transcript.
Schiff hit back by calling Trump a cover-up artist and a “threat” to his country.
Trump still maintains his telephone call to Zelensky contained no quid pro quo. He and his Republican defenders contend that these investigations are tantamount to a “witch hunt” by the Democrats in Congress.
