Trump Chief Of Staff Mark Meadows’ Emails Show He Pressed DOJ To Investigate Election Conspiracy Theories

Mark Meadows, former President Donald Trump’s chief of staff, is in the news after his published emails show his attempting to get then-Acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen to order the Department of Justice to investigate baseless allegations that voter fraud occurred in the 2020 Election. The emails, five in total, were sent from late December 2020 to early January 2021. The emails were obtained during an investigation by the Senate Judiciary Committee.

In the emails, Meadows asks several DOJ officials to investigate several baseless conspiracy theories, among them “Italygate,” an odd theory that people in Italy were using Italian military technology and satellites to tamper with voting machines in the United States changing Trump votes to Biden votes. After he asked for the DOJ to investigate claims the department had already debunked, Meadows was on the phone call in which Trump called Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (D) to see how many exact votes the president needed to overturn the state’s election results.

The revelation comes at a time when an audit of votes is still occurring in Arizona. Many Trump supporters, like his former attorney Sidney Powell, falsely believe the election could be overturned in Trump’s favor.
