Former President Donald Trump took to his social media platform to declare that he will be asking for the recusal of the federal Judge Tanya Chutkanwho is presiding over the criminal case that charging him with attempting to overturn the 2020 election results, accusing her of being biased against him.

In his Truth Social post, Trump said, “There is no way I can get a fair trial with the judge ‘assigned’ to the ridiculous freedom of speech/ fair elections case. Everybody knows this, and so does she! We will be immediately asking for recusal of this judge on very powerful grounds, and likewise for venue change, out of D.C..”

The former president has, however, not revealed the “powerful measures” being taken by him or his campaign to request the recusal.

Nominated by former Democratic President Barack Obama, Judge Chutkan is known for being a formidable force to reckon with. Attacked by Trump allies for her rulings, she has previously ruled against Trump for trying to block evidence tied to the January 6 Capitol riot.

Judge Chutkan has also ruled on other January 6 cases and handed severe punishments, including prison sentences to all January 6 defendants who had appeared before her in court.

According to the Department of Justice website, judges can only be asked “to recuse themselves on grounds of partiality or the appearance of partiality.” Judge Chuktan has not indicated any signs that she will seek a recusal.

In a separate Truth Social post, the former president lashed out at President Joe Biden and Special Counsel Jack Smith.

Smith has indicted Trump on several charges, including the mishandling of classified information, obstruction of justice and attempting to overturn the 2020 election results.

Trump has demanded a venue change to an “impartial venue, such as the politically unbiased nearby State of West Virginia” since it is “impossible to get a fair trial in Washington D.C., which is over 95% anti-Trump, and for which I have called for a federal takeover in order to bring our capital back to greatness,” he said.

“This indictment is all about election interference,” Trump said.
