Trump Calls For Goodyear Boycott For Banning MAGA Hats In Workplace

President Donald Trump on Monday called for a boycott of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., an Ohio-based tire manufacturing company, after it banned its employees from wearing clothes with political messages in it, including Trump’s campaign merchandise.

“Don’t buy GOODYEAR TIRES – They announced a BAN ON MAGA HATS. Get better tires for far less!” Trump tweeted. “(This is what the Radical Left Democrats do. Two can play the same game, and we have to start playing it now!) “

Goodyear’s stock declined 3.4 percent Wednesday morning after his tweet.

Following Trump’s boycott announcement, Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Akron), the Democratic congressman who represents the Akron area, said that the president’s tweet was a “dumb mistake” considering that Ohio is a swing state.

“This is an iconic American company in a swing state… it’s really, really dumb politically,” he said. “But it shows the problem that he has – that it’s more about him than it is about other people.”

The Lincoln Project also released a video Friday to address Trump’s boycott tweet that could put 3,300 Ohioans’ jobs at risk amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Times are tough in Ohio, and Donald Trump is making it worse,” the narrator said. “Demanding a boycott to put Goodyear out of business. Why? His feelings got hurt. Trump talks a good game, but he’s not on our side. Never has been, never will be.”
