In tweets on Monday President Donald Trump doubled down on offensive remarks he had made towards four progressive Democratic congresswomen in which he said they should “go back” to their own countries, sparking outrage among liberals.

On Monday morning, Trump continued his attacks on “Radical Left Congresswomen” by asking them to apologize “for the foul language they have used, and the terrible things they have said.” He added, “So many people are angry at them & their horrible & disgusting actions!”

He went on to state, “If Democrats want to unite around the foul language & racist hatred spewed from the mouths and actions of these very unpopular & unrepresentative Congresswomen, it will be interesting to see how it plays out. I can tell you that they have made Israel feel abandoned by the U.S.”

The lawmakers who the president is referring to are most likely Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York), Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Michigan), Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota), and Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Massachusetts). The four House freshmen have been vocal opponents of the president and his policies, especially his abysmal treatment of immigrants in detention centers at the border.

On Sunday the president took to Twitter to attack ‘”Progressive” Democrat Congresswomen,’ saying that they should “go back” to “countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe” and “help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done.”

Of the four members of congress who the president targeted, all were born in America other than Omar.

Democratic lawmakers took to Twitter to condemn Trump for his actions, accusing him of employing language commonly used by white supremacists. “It’s important to note that the President’s words yday, telling four American Congresswomen of color “go back to your own country,” is hallmark language of white supremacists,” tweeted Ocasio-Cortez.

Even Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who has recently been at odds with the four Democratic lawmakers, came to their defense. “When @realDonaldTrump tells four American Congresswomen to go back to their countries, he reaffirms his plan to ‘Make America Great Again’ has always been about making America white again,” she tweeted Sunday. “Our diversity is our strength and our unity is our power.”
