Trump Ally Kari Lake, Who Lost Governor’s Race In 2020, Files To Run For Senate In Arizona

Kari Lake, the former news anchor who ran and lost as the 2022 Republican nominee in the governor’s race for Arizona, filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to join the run for the U.S. Senate in Arizona.

Lake is expected to announce her decision at a rally on October 10 formally. Her entrance into the race turns the pressure up on Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I), who has yet to announce if she will be running for reelection. Lake isn’t the only candidate who has entered the race – Rep. Ruben Gallego (D–Arizona) announced his candidacy in January.

Sinema, a former Democrat who repeatedly clashed with her party during her first term, is considered to be the most vulnerable sitting senator.

Lake has raised her political profile by supporting former President Donald Trump and his false claims of election fraud in 2020.

Lake has also stated, without any evidence, that she won last fall’s election against the current governor of Arizona, Katie Hobbs (D). She lost the election by roughly 17,000 votes and has been unsuccessful in various legal battles to overturn results.

Although Arizona has a history of sending Republicans to the Senate, the Democrats have won for the last three races.

Lake will not be the lone Republican seeking the nomination – Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb entered the race in April.
