AUSTIN, TX - JUNE 27: Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott attends a press conference celebrating the U.S. Supreme Court decision that allows a Ten Commandments monument to stand outside the Texas State Capitol June 27, 2005 in Austin, Texas. A sharply divided Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of displaying the Ten Commandments on government land, but drew the line on displays inside courthouses, saying they violated the doctrine of separation of church and state. During a visit to a town on the U.S.-Mexico border, former President Donald Trump gained the support of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and assured him that his strict immigration strategies, if elected for another term as president, would greatly help Texas.
During their appearance before a crowd in Edinburg, Texas, Trump assured Abbott that he would have the opportunity to divert his attention to other matters within Texas if he is re-elected. The event took place in an airport hangar and drew an audience of roughly 150 individuals.
Abbott, who shares Trump’s controversial views on the issue of border security, expressed his pride in endorsing the former president, who currently leads the Republican Party’s race for the 2024 nomination.
The gathering took place in a town located approximately 30 miles away from the Hidalgo Port of Entry, which is a crossing point into Mexico. While addressing the crowd, Abbott said the country needs a president who will ensure border security.

Trump also served food to Texas National Guard soldiers, troopers, and other individuals who would be stationed at the border during the Thanksgiving holiday. Trump and Abbott distributed tacos, and Trump himself greeted the soldiers, shook their hands and took pictures with them.
Trump has made numerous visits to the border both as a candidate and as the president. In July 2015, during his campaign, he went to Laredo, Texas, which served as a platform to showcase how his immigration stance garnered significant media coverage and gained favorable backing from the GOP base.
