Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) has announced plans to construct a wall along the border with Mexico and an aggressive effort to arrests migrants trying to enter the United States.

“Only Congress and the president can fix our broken border,” Abbott said at a summit to discuss border security in front of his supporters Thursday. “But in the meantime, Texas is going to do everything possible, including beginning to make arrests, to keep our community safe.”

“The ability to arrest will be enhanced by building border barriers. Anybody who tries to modify, attempt, or get through any of these border barriers — that unto itself is a crime for which they can be arrested,” Abbott added.

The Texan governor has been one of the most outspoken critics of President Joe Biden over handling illegal immigrants. Abbott has also been hinting that he will bring back some of former President Donald Trump‘s immigration policy such as completing a border wall.
