Despite being physically fit and having no underlying health conditions, Mike Schultz, 43, fell victim to the novel coronavirus.
After spending six weeks being treated in a Boston hospital, including being sedated and intubated, the virus had taken a very evident toll on Schultz’s body.
“I thought only a week had gone by,” the San Francisco nurse told BuzzFeed News of his time in the hospital. “I was so weak. This was one of the most frustrating parts,” he recalled. “I couldn’t hold my cellphone; it was so heavy. I couldn’t type, because my hands shook so much.”
Schultz shared a shocking before and after photo to his 30,000 followers on Instagram — he had lost nearly 50 pounds, and he is still struggling to rebuild his lung capacity.
