Trump Plays Golf Again As Coronavirus Death Toll Nears 100,000

President Donald Trump spent the Memorial Day weekend playing golf at the Trump National Golf Club in Virginia.

The president reportedly hadn’t played golf for 75 days, but received a lot of backlash on social media and in the press.

Trump tweeted on Sunday, blaming the media for making a big deal out of it.

“Some stories about the fact that in order to get outside and perhaps, even a little exercise, I played golf over the weekend,” he tweeted. “The Fake & Totally Corrupt News makes it sound like a mortal sin.”

Dr. Deborah Birx, White House coronavirus response coordinator, announced on Friday during the White House briefing that it is okay for people to spend the Memorial Day weekend enjoying outside activities like golf as long as they practice social distancing.

“Please, as you go out this weekend, understand that you can be outside, and you can play golf, and you can play tennis with marked balls,” Brix said. “You can go to the beaches if you stay six feet apart. But remember that is your space. And that is the space you need to protect to ensure you are social distancing for others.”

On Sunday, Trump suggested that the end of the pandemic is nearing.

“Cases, numbers and deaths are going down all over the Country!” he wrote on his Twitter.
