On Friday MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough named Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky), “Moscow Mitch” due McConnell’s resistance to passing legislation concerning election security. The #MoscowMitch was soon trending on Twitter.
He praised Robert Mueller and then blasted McConnell for calling Mueller’s comments that Russia is still trying to interfere with elections a “hoax.”
Scarborough added that McConnell is “aiding and abetting [Russian President] Vladimir Putin’s ongoing attempts to subvert American democracy.”

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-New York) bill that would require the use of paper ballots passed the House with only one Republican voting for it. Once the bill appeared in the Senate it was quickly shot down by McConnell, who called it “partisan legislation.”
McConnell also shot down Sen. Richard Blumenthal’s (D-Connecticut) bill that would have required candidates and campaign officials to report any foreign interference to the FBI.
