On Sunday, Sen. Tim Scott (R-South Carolina) made a surprising announcement that he is halting his bid for the presidency.
During an interview on Fox News, the senator revealed his decision. Multiple members of his campaign team stated that they were not informed beforehand and learned of Scott’s decision in real time on live television.
Scott informed the presenter, Trey Gowdy, that when he returns to Iowa, he will not be running for president. Gowdy appeared surprised and raised his eyebrows. Scott expressed his admiration for the voters in Iowa, calling them the most exceptional individuals in the world.
He mentioned that they have told him, “Not now, Tim,” indicating that they are not rejecting him outright but rather suggesting that it is not the right time for him.

Scott has consistently received very low polling numbers. Earlier, he had announced that his campaign would focus entirely on Iowa as a final attempt to improve his prospects in the Republican presidential race. It was also announced that some of his staff would be moving to the state holding the first caucuses.
It is uncertain how many of his team members were selected to transfer to Iowa following this announcement from his campaign manager.
Scott’s campaign sent out a fundraising email labeled “One Final Opportunity” less than 30 minutes before he withdrew from the race.
