Biden Administration Dedicates $16 Billion To Enhance Amtrak Service In Northeast Corridor

President Joe Biden announced that over $16 billion would be invested by the federal government to enhance the busiest rail line in the country.

The Northeast Corridor, a network of Amtrak lines that connects Washington, New York, Boston and other cities, will receive funding for more than 24 projects.

Biden praised the new initiatives, stating that he understood the frustration of being stuck on a halted train when attempting to go home to Delaware.

He also spoke about the urgent need to repair an outdated system. This became especially relevant as there was a halt in train services in the vicinity owing to firefighting operations on the rails. It remained uncertain if the mishap was associated with the malfunctions that his new investments aimed to resolve.

The president affirmed his determination to improve service on American railways. “How can you be a leading country in the world and have a second-rate infrastructure? It’s not possible,” he said.

The Biden administration has selected projects including replacing aged bridges and tunnels. The $16.4 billion will be used from the bipartisan infrastructure law in order to minimize passenger delays, accelerate train speeds and create well-paying jobs for union members.
