GOP Sen. Tim Scott (R-South Carolina), a 2024 presidential candidate, vowed on to “finish the investigation” into Hunter Biden and the entire Biden family, should he be elected.

Hunter Biden entered a plea deal with prosecutors on Tuesday following a five-year-long investigation. He will plead guilty to two tax misdemeanors and will engage in a diversion program for his possession of a firearm while an illegal user of drugs. He will most likely not serve time in prison.

“The big guy has some explaining to do. We all have to be treated equally under the eyes and the laws of our country,” said Scott at a Fox News town hall event.

Scott is not the only Republican to express disapproval of the plea deal. House Oversight Committee chairman Rep. James Comer (R-Kentucky) also pledged to continue investigating Hunter Biden’s misdoings.

“These charges against Hunter Biden and sweetheart plea deal have no impact on the Oversight Committee’s investigation,” said Comer on Tuesday. “We will not rest until the full extent of President Biden’s involvement in the family’s schemes is revealed.”

Comer is one of many GOP officials who believe that President Joe Biden has tampered with the Department of Justice’s investigation into his son, despite the fact that it has been overseen by an attorney general whom Donald Trump appointed during his time in office.

Experts says that Hunter Biden actually received a longer sentence than most facing similar charges.

Conservatives are comparing Hunter Biden’s case to that of Trump, who was indicted earlier in the month on 37 counts for willful retention of classified national security information. The former president is pushing the narrative that the Justice Department was politically motivated in bringing charges against him.

Republicans are also urging for further investigation into Biden’s potential mishandling of classified information following his terms in the Senate and the Obama administration.

“If they can’t finish their investigation, President Tim Scott will finish it,” declared Scott. “With your help, we’re going to fire Joe Biden. We’re going to fire Merrick Garland and fire Christopher Wray. And restore confidence and integrity in the Department of Justice.”
