Lauren Blair Bianchi, communications director to Sen.Ted Cruz (R-Texas), has formally resigned from her position as a result of Cruz’s refusal to certify the Electoral College results in a joint session of Congress last Wednesday.
An official statement from the Cruz office said, “Senator Cruz and Lauren agreed that it would be best to part ways. He thanks her for her service and wishes her the best.”
Bianchi reportedly she made her decision because of Cruz’s actions this week. Bianchi has not commented on her resignation.
Both Cruz and fellow Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Missouri) have had several staffers quietly say they felt compelled to quit. Cruz’s former chairman from his 2016 presidential campaign, Chad Sweet, has actively spoken out against the senator in recent days saying, “Donald Trump and those who aided and abetted him in his relentless undermining of our democracy — including Sens. Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz — must be denounced. In particular, I made it clear to Sen. Cruz, whom I have known for years, before the joint session of Congress, that if he proceeded to object to the electoral count of the legitimate slates of delegates certified by the states, I could no longer support him.”
