New York City To Cancel All Contracts With Trump Organizations Due To ‘Criminal Activity’

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced today that the city will be canceling several Trump projects because of the president’s involvement in the Capitol riots.

Mayor de Blasio said specifically that “inciting an insurrection against the U.S. government clearly constitutes criminal activity. The City of New York will no longer have anything to do with the Trump Organization.”

The canceled projects include Trump’s management of two ice skating rinks near the Central Park Carousel and a new golf course at Ferry Point in the Bronx. The Trump Organization is expected to suffer massive financial losses as a result of the city’s decision.

Trump, who made his name as a New York City real estate mogul, recently changed his state of residency to Florida. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) speaks out regularly against Trump and was among the first governors to demand the president’s removal after last Wednesday’s riots.

Mayor de Blasio said that the city had considered canceling Trump contracts in the past. The reason they followed through this time is because of the mayor, and the city’s decision to call the outgoing president’s actions “criminal.” The City of New York has the legal right to sever any contracts with a company if they are found to have criminal holdings.

Anticipating a Trump Organization legal rebuttal, de Blasio said “we’re on strong legal ground,” implying they would fight any Trump litigation against the city.
