Sen. Lindsey Graham Defends Trump’s Tweets, Calls Ocasio-Cortez A ‘Communist’

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) appeared on Fox and Friends Monday and defended the recent tweets made by President Donald Trump telling four congresswomen of color to “go back” to where they came from.

“Well, we all know that [Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez] and this crowd are a bunch of communists, they hate Israel, they hate our own country,” Graham said during the show. “They’re calling the guards along our border, the border patrol agents, ‘concentration camp guards.’ They accuse people who support Israel of doing it for the Benjamins. They’re anti-Semitic. They’re anti-America.”

The only admission Graham made that Trump’s comments were subpar was when he was asked by Fox co-host Steve Doocy if he believed the president “went too far” with his tweets. The senator replied that Trump should “aim higher” than the personalities of the congresswomen and instead talk about their policies. “You don’t need to — they are American citizens. They won an election. Take on their policies,” he said.

Graham added that if the four congresswomen, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York), Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Michigan), Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota), and Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Massachusetts), were made “the face of the future” of their party, “You will destroy the Democratic Party,” he said.

The president was quick to display the support of Graham, sharing his comments on Twitter with the caption “Need I say more?”

Trump has been facing mass outrage recently over his xenophobic comments towards the four progressive House freshmen. In a series of tweets on Sunday, the president said that they should “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came” instead of criticizing America. His comments sparked a massive backlash as opponents, and some allies, were quick to point out that all four representatives were American citizens, and only one of them was born outside of the United States.
