Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand Becomes Fourth Democrat To Drop Out Of Presidential Race

On Wednesday, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-New York) announced that she is dropping out of the Democratic primary after she failed to qualify for the upcoming third debate.

Gillibrand failed to get enough donors or to score over 2% in the polls, both of which are needed to qualify for the debates. Her announcement comes on the deadline to qualify.

The New York senator’s campaign focused on women’s rights. If elected, she promised to only appoint judges who support Roe v. Wade.

She became the fourth Democrat to drop out following, Jay Inslee (D-Washington), Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Massachusetts), and Gov. John Hickenlooper (D-Colorado).

In a tweet announcement, she said, “I am so proud of this team and all we’ve accomplished. But I think it’s important to know how you can best serve.”

Gillibrand was never able to gain significant media coverage, with her opponents usually getting that spotlight.

Ten Democrats are expected to take part in the next debate in September. Those who do not qualify for this debate can still make it to the fourth one in October.
