Sen. John Fetterman Hospitalized After Feeling “Lightheaded”

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) has been hospitalized after feeling lightheaded. The freshman senator has been recovering from a stroke suffered months ago while on the campaign trail.

Fetterman’s communications director, Joe Calvello, released a statement on Wednesday night that Fetterman was expected to stay at the hospital overnight.

The senator was on a retreat with other Democrats when he started to feel the symptoms. The retreat was scheduled for all Democrats to get together after the State of the Union address.

“He left and called his staff, who picked him up and drove him to the George Washington University Hospital,” Calvello said.

Fetterman remained in the hospital overnight for observation. According to Calvello, the hospital has not found any clear signs of another stroke.

Calvello also said that Fetterman is “in good spirits and talking with his staff and family.”

Fetterman suffered a stroke in May 2022, the day before his Pennsylvania primary win. The health scare became a central issue in his race with Dr. Mehmet Oz (R) for the Pennsylvania Senate seat.

Oz mocked Fetterman’s health challenges, including in their debate where Fetterman struggled to find some words.

Despite the challenges to his recovery at the time, Fetterman won the seat, earning 51.6% of the vote. The win flipped a seat and was integral in maintainting Democratic control in the Senate.
