Secret Service Spent Nearly $250,000 At Trump Properties In 2017

The Secret Service spent more than $250,000 at President Donald Trump’s properties between Jan. 27 and June 9, 2017 according to documents obtained by the nonprofit watchdog group Property of the People.

The documents, which were obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, showed the Secret Service spending in total, $254,020.94 at his properties, namely his golf clubs. That comes out to just under $1900 worth of expenses every day.

The records show that the agency spent more than $45,000 at Trump Hotel Las Vegas in March 2017. The Secret Service also spent more than $32,000 at Trump International Hotel in Washington, DC over those five months. The Secret Service has spent more than $200,000 in taxpayer money between 2016 and 2018.

The revelations have once again prompted a debate about whether Trump’s property investments are a conflict of interest.

In April, the House Oversight and Reform Committee launched a probe into the Air Force’s overnight stays at Trump Turnberry resort after expenditure significantly increased.

House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff (D-California) tweeted that Trump needs to disclose how his properties and federal expenditure are overlapping.

“How much taxpayer money has gone into Trump’s pocket?” Schiff tweeted Friday. “We still don’t know. I’ve introduced a bill requiring disclosure. We should know the price tag for the President’s lack of basic ethics.”
