Rudy Giuliani made some sharply critical remarks about the FBI and its former Director James Comey in an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity on Wednesday.
The former New York City mayor and prosecutor — now a member of President Donald Trump‘s legal team — compared the bureau’s agents to “stormtroopers,” a reference to Nazis. Giuliani also called Comey — who was fired by Trump in May 2017 — a “disgraceful liar” and a “very perverted man.”
Comey has been on tour to promote his new tell-all memoir A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies and Leadership. He recently released memos of his conversations with Trump and sat down for an interview with ABC about his interactions with the president, among other topics.
Giuliani also restated his belief that Trump’s opponent in the 2016 election Hillary Clinton is a “criminal.”

“He fired Comey because Comey would not, among other things, say that he wasn’t a target of the investigation,” Giuliani also told Hannity.

Several media outlets including The Daily Beast also fact-checked many of the false statements Giuliani made when speaking with Hannity, including his claim that no other U.S. President in history had ever received a subpoena while in office.
The former New York mayor also made news on Wednesday by claiming Trump knew about his personal lawyer Michael Cohen’s $130,000 hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels and that Trump repaid Cohen for the sum. Trump previously said he was unaware of this payment.
Giuliani also asserted that the payment to Daniels did not break any campaign finance laws.
Comey responded to Giuliani’s comments in a tweet on Thursday morning:
Former Virginia Republican Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli also criticized Giuliani’s comments while speaking to CNN on Thursday.
“I really do not like to see anybody on any side of an argument wander into language of the Nazi Germany era,” said Cuccinelli.
