Rudy Giuliani Claims He Will Be ‘The Hero’ After Whistleblower Complaint

President Donald Trump‘s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani insisted Thursday that he will emerge the “hero” after the whistleblower complaint blows over.

“It is impossible that the whistleblower is a hero and I’m not. And I will be the hero! These morons – when this is over, I will be the hero,” said Giuliani Thursday in a phone interview with The Atlantic‘s Elaina Plott.

Plott tweeted that Giuliani was “nearly shouting” during the conversation.

“I had this conversation while in an Uber and when I hung up the driver was like, ‘Uh everything ok?'” she wrote.

During a July 25 phone call between Trump and the president of Ukraine, which is at the heart of a whistleblower complaint against Trump, Trump told the Ukrainian president to expect a visit from Giuliani.

Giuliani himself admitted that he went to Ukraine to try to persuade the government to launch an investigation into presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son Hunter, who is connected to the Ukraine-based gas company, Burisma Holdings.

Giuliani told CNN’s Chris Cuomo, “The only thing I asked about Joe Biden is to get to the bottom of how it was that Lutsenko, was appointed, dismissed the case,” in regards to former Ukrainian prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko and the dropped investigation of alleged tax evasion by Burisma.

“So you did ask Ukraine to look into Joe Biden,” said Cuomo.

“Of course I did,” said Giuliani.

Peter Baker, the chief White House correspondent for The New York Times, said Thursday on MSNBC that Giuliani has played a unique role in the whistleblower news.

“I don’t know if he’s a hero or villain,” said Baker. “That will be decided by history, by people smarter than I am. But you’re not going find a more colorful character as part of this drama.”

Giuliani defended his actions on the phone with Plott.

“I’m not acting as a lawyer. I’m acting as someone who has devoted most of his life to straightening out government,” he said. “Anything I did should be praised.”
