Rudy Giuliani Cancels Scheduled Interview With Jan. 6 Committee

Former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani backed out of a scheduled Friday meeting with the House select committee investigating the January 6 Capitol attack after they denied his request to videotape the interview.

Robert Costello, Giuliani’s personal lawyer, confirmed to the press on Thursday that Giuliani had canceled the meeting.

The committee signaled a willingness to hold Giuliani in contempt over his unwillingness to comply after being subpoenaed in January.

“Mr. Giuliani had agreed to participate in a transcribed interview with the Select Committee,” committee spokesperson Tim Mulvey said in a statement. “Today, he informed committee investigators that he wouldn’t show up unless he was permitted to record the interview, which was never an agreed-upon condition.”

“Mr. Giuliani is an important witness to the conspiracy to overthrow the government and he remains under subpoena. If he refuses to comply the committee will consider all enforcement options,” Mulvey added.

If the committee has already held former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, and former Trump advisers Steve Bannon, Peter Navarro and Dan Scavino in contempt.

In January, sources claimed that Giuliani headed the scheme to enlist illegitimate electors in seven states, testifying that he had participated in at least one phone call with state GOP leaders about the scheme. When he was subpoenaed, the letter specifically stated the committee’s intention of finding out more about his role in influencing state legislatures to overturn election results in their states.

Giuliani “urged President Trump to direct the seizure of voting machines around the country after being told that the Department of Homeland Security had no lawful authority to do so,” the subpoena added.
